There is no cure

In response to my contemplating more mods for my car, but also lamenting that I will no doubt make it worse in some area while trying to make it better, someone recently suggested the existence of a pill which cures the constant desire to modify cars that are perfectly, utterly good and should be left alone. This was my reply:

The problem with these pills is they work on the same mechanism as Antibiotics (in fact they're called Antimodiotics) and our bodies have a similar reaction to them in that too much use can result in a natural immunity. See, all of us enthusiasts have a special secondary sensory/input organ in called the Medula Badidea (http://www.superstreetonline.com/fea...sts-bad-ideas/) which sits under the motor cortex. As highlighted in that article it functions in two ways - both supplying bad ideas (I should buy a lancia stratos) and interrupting rational thought processes to facilitate bad ideas that would otherwise be destroyed in a normal brain (500 hp isn't enough power...)

The Antimodiotic medications work by penetrating the cell walls of the Medula Badiea and manipulating its caRNA until the structure resembles that of the Medula Responsabilitia. In theory this is successful in preventing the spread of further bad ideas, but clinical results suggest the Medula Badidea is capable of regrowing lost tissue and even acting in its own defense but parasitically piggybacking on ideas from the Medula Responsabilitia. (Example: An STI is a hatchback, therefor it's practical therefore it's exactly the same as a minivan and we should cross-shop them).

The real world result is that trying to supress the Medual Badidea almost invariably results in a short time of repressed behaviour (6 months to 2 years at most) which is followed by a powerful relapse. Warning signs of relapse include such behaviours as impulsive craigslisting, unrequited fits of lust after classic roadsters, and purchasing of at least 3 pieces of clothing featuring a car related logo or slogan.

There is no known cure.
